Below is the band overview sheet that was handed out at the meeting on Thursday, 8/16/18.

2018 Band Camp Meeting

Below are links to our sheet music for this year.  I will move them to the “members” section once that is updated and password protected.  The files contain ALL of the parts!  Please be sure to click “print current page” or enter your page number when printing…otherwise you will print EVERY INSTRUMENT PART!

If there are 2 parts (i.e. Alto 1 and Alto 2), generally students in grade 11-12 will play the 1st part and students in grades 9-10 will play the 2nd parts.  If there are 3 parts (such as trumpets), then all 9th grade students and some 10th grade will play the 3rd part, some 11th and 10th grade students will play the 2nd part, and some 12th and 11th grade students will play the 1st part.

The band needs to make sure that all of the parts are covered.  We may need to change assignments once band camp begins.  Especially with the trumpets being mostly 12th grade students.  We may assign parts on a song-by-song basis.

As always, contact me at richard.weaver@redclay.k12.de.us if you have any questions.

Band Camp is for all students in the marching band.  Practice is from Monday-Thursday, from 6:00-9:00 pm for 2 weeks.  The first night is Monday, August 13, 2018. We encourage ALL band students in grades 9-12 to participate.  If you aren’t sure that you want to do marching band, at least come out for a few days and try it! You will LOVE IT!

Dates for Band Camp:

8/20, 8/21, 8/22, 8/23 – 6:00-9:00 pm @ AIHS

Take time to inspect your instrument now. If it needs to be repaired, get it to the shop so that it will be in good working order for band camp.

Please arrive before 6:00 pm so that we can begin on time.  Also, students being picked up should have their rides in the front parking lot by 8:55 pm.

Students will receive information about our first parent meeting at camp.

We will rehearse both inside and outside (weather permitting).  Please wear comfortable clothes and sneakers – no flip-flops or sandals! Be sure to eat dinner and drink plenty of fluids before practice (especially if you are participating in a fall sport).

For more information, please visit www.aibands.com and read the Director’s Blog (under “Media”). Sheet music will be available there soon.

– Drink lots of water and eat lunch before reporting to the parade.  Also, wear sunscreen as it will likely be hot and sunny.

Band Camp is for ALL NEW AND RETURNING band members.  More information will be posted here over the summer.  But for now, mark the dates on your calendar.  Again, I understand conflicts happen, but inform me as soon as possible via e-mail.  Work, homework, and non-AIHS clubs are not excused absences from marching band evening rehearsals.

2018 Summer Band Events

Just a reminder that our graduation is tomorrow, 6/2/18, at 9:00 am at the Bob Carpenter Center at UD.  All playing members in grades 9-11 are expected to perform.  We are meeting at A.I. duPont High School at 7:00 am.  We will return to school around 11:15 am.  Attire for the performance is “Sunday Best.”  Gentlemen should wear dress pants, a button up shirt, and a tie (or bowtie).  Dress shoes and dark socks are also preferred.  Ladies should wear a dress, skirt & top, or dress pants & top.  Garments can be any color.  They do not have to be black and white. Please remember that this performance will serve as your final exam grade.

Congratulations to everyone who worked hard and auditioned to be a band front.  If you did not earn a position this year, work hard and start preparing for next year’s audition! It’s never to early to begin!

Please click below for the audition results.  Be sure to follow the directions for next week.  Any playing member on a band front squad is still expected to perform on the instrument during concert band.  They will split time with the band fronts and concert band.  Some members may be placed on attendance, behavior, or academic contracts.  Any student may be removed from band at the discretion of the band director.

All students are expected to enroll in Band Class, attend all football games & parades, and attend all Monday night rehearsals (Fall & Spring).
